Saga City

Saga City is a 2D educational city building sim that was created for Temasek Junior College (Temasek JC) and Bedok South Secondary School. The game aims to teach students history and geography via fun, interactive gameplay and is an app on the Apple Store.

Project Overview

2016 (3 months) ・ Team Size: 5 ・ Sketch

Saga City is primarily targeted at JC students and is meant to be used as a supplement to history lessons. It is designed for playing on the iPad.

The content of the game comes from historical and geographical textbooks. It tries to mimic certain scenarios in those textbooks to better teach students the situation and difficulties faced during that time.

There was a discussion on whether the game had too much text, however, because this is primarily an educational game, I successfully argued that text is to be expected and would likely be a main focus, especially when excerpts from textbooks will likely be part of the content.
Distill relevant information and combine them into a resource bar. Took inspiration from other resource management games such as Frostpunk and Civilization.
Translating user/product requirements into actual, valid design. To achieve this, I checked in often and worked closely with my supervisor and product owner.
